A Springfield man has been sentenced to two years in prison for robbing a west side bank with a handwritten note.

Rodney J. Oglesby, 33, of 908 W. Rose St., pleaded guilty earlier this month to one count of robbery in the Clark County Common Pleas Court.

The Springfield Police Division was called to the Security National Bank: Western Office, 920 W. Main St. at about 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Oglesby allegedly walked into the bank and began asking about a loan, according to a police report. An employee told him he would need to provide an ID and paycheck stubs, but Oglesby allegedly began acting oddly, the report says.

A few minutes later, the employee sat down with him and asked to see a paycheck stub. Oglesby then allegedly pulled out a handwritten note that said, “I need $10,000 in $20s no bag,” the report said.

The employee then gave the man money and he left the bank on foot, the report says. No employees or witnesses were harmed and were able to provide a description to police officers.

Police collected the ID and requested a warrant for robbery. Oglesby was taken into custody the next morning, jail records said.

In a judgment entry, Clark County Common Pleas Court Judge Richard O’Neill said the crime mandated a prison sentence.

“The court further finds that, after considering the factors set forth, a prison term is consistent with the purposes and principles of sentencing,” O’Neill said. “The court further finds that a combination of community control and sanctions would demean the seriousness of the defendant’s conduct and its impact on the victim.”

Along with the two-year prison sentence, Oglesby must pay about $1,200 to Security National Bank and be on parole for three years, the entry says.

Should he violate his terms of parole, he could face up to eight years in prison, according to the judgment entry.
