UPDATE: Police Identify Woman Accused of Trying to Rob Bank in Rogers
ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA) - UPDATE: Rogers police have identified the woman who was Tased after she reportedly resisted arrest following an attempted bank robbery.
Melodie Lyday, 38, of Tulsa, Okla., was arrested on suspicion of robbery, attempted theft and refusal to submit to arrest, according to Keith Foster, public information officer for the Rogers Police Department.
Police were called to Region's Bank, 1800 W. Walnut St., at 11:54 a.m. regarding an attempted robbery.
"After investigation it was determined [Lyday] entered the bank to cash a check," Foster said. "After cashing the check, she got behind the counter and attempted to grab money out of the bank drawer."
Bank employees were able to get Lyday from the register and called police.
Officers arrived and attempted to detain Lyday, but she became combative and resisted arrest.
"Officers deployed a Taser on Lyday and she was detained," Foster said.
Lyday was taken to Mercy Medical Center for evaluation, and was later transported to the Benton County Sheriff's Office to be held for a bond hearing, Foster said.
A woman is in custody Thursday after climbing over a counter and attacking "employees" at Region's Bank in Rogers, according to Keith Foster with the Rogers Police Department.
Witnesses tell Fox 24 News that police were at the bank, 1800 W Walnut, and crime tape was up.
As of 1:00 p.m. police were no longer at the scene.
